Johnson's wrestling career began in 2020 when WWE signed her under the ring names Ava and Ava Raine. Her first in-ring appearance was on April 1, 2023, at the NXT Stand & Deliver event, where she teamed with The Schism in an eight-person tag team match. After this, she transitioned into an on-screen assistant for Shawn Michaels and later became the general manager of NXT.
